Eric Stonestreet, Archie Panjabi Nab Emmys For Gay Roles

By: Staff
Actors Eric Stonestreet and Archie Panjabi have won Emmys for playing gay roles. Panjabi won a best supporting actress Emmy for her portrayal of law firm investigator Kalinda Sharma, a bisexual woman or possibly closeted lesbian, on CBS' legal drama The Good Wife. “Working on the The Good Wife is like a dream come true,” the 38-year-old British born actress said. “I have so many people to thank for giving me this incredible opportunity.” Producers have announced they'll add a second gay character to the cast in the show's second season. Actor Dallas Roberts, 40, will play the role of Alicia Florrick's (played by Julianna Margulies) never-before-seen gay brother, Owen, a University of Oregon mathematics teacher who blows through Chicago as a visiting professor. Eric Stonestreet, who plays gay dad Cameron on ABC's Sunday night comedy hit Modern Family, won a best supporting actor Emmy. Stonestreet said he would take his Emmy to his parent's house in Kansas City. Controversy surrounding the lack of a gay kiss on the show didn't stop it from winning best comedy. Modern Family edged out Glee, the clear favorite among critics, to win the award.
